EXOTIC CHINESE EVERGREEN
The Toronto Office Exotic Chinese Evergreen indoor plant has long and narrow silver leaves with dark green marks.
Its scientific name is Aglaonema crispum.
What are the maintenance practices involved in the care of these plants?
Irrigation
They enjoy moderate water supply. Neither too much nor too little. Overwatering will cause root rot while underwatering will lead to wilting.
Fertilizer application
Exotic Chinese Evergreen plants are not heavy feeders hence apply fertilizer at most twice a year. Use a water-soluble fertilizer.
Soil
The media used should have a good drainage capacity and rich in nutrients. If the media retains water, there will be cases of root rot.
Lighting
These plants require low lighting. Do not expose them to direct sunlight to avoid scorching that brings about sunburns. Similarly, this applies to temperature too. If exposed to too high temperatures, the plants will start showing signs of wilting.
Pruning
Remove any dead and unwanted leaves by cutting at the base. This will keep the plant healthy and gives it a good shape.
Propagation
Propagation is done by cuttings. The baby plant is cut off from the mother plant and then planted in as separate pot. The baby plant should be closely monitored until it develops a strong root system.
